Drysdale, Robert Elmer

Elmer joined the RCAF in September 1940 and trained as a pilot at Regina, Brandon, Fort William, Fort MacLeod and RAF Andover Hants (Hampshire). He was a member of unit 114 squadron, and the pilot of a Blenheim bomber. On February 12 1942, he piloted his crew on an attack on German battleships, the Scharnhorst, Gneisenau and Von Tirpize which escaped. Brest France via the English Channel. His body was recovered in Holland and he is buried in the Dutch coastal city of Vlissingen in the Netherlands.
