Fred William Burchell enlisted in Brussels, Ontario January 6, 1916. (Service # 654100), He trained at Camp Borden and on November 1, 1916, he sailed with his battalion from Halifax Nova Scotia, on the SS Lapland and arrived in Liverpool on November 11 1916. Fred was promoted to Corporal and on November 22, 1916, was given the ranl of company Sergeant Major at Dibgate Camp, Kent. On April 10, 1917, he was transferred to Brmshott Military Camp, Hampshire. and then to Witley Camp, Surrey on March 10, 1917. Fred was discharged from duty on september 5 1919. Fred returned home to Brussels Ontario and was reunited with his wife Aileen and two sons, the youngest, Fred, was born the day after he landed in Liverpool with his battalion and Fred was killed in WWII.
