Bill was a member of the Royal Canadian Artillery 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment. He served as a Gunner (H-Troop), 105th Battery. He landed with his brigade on D-Day as part of the initial assaults. Bill drove a Bren Gun Carrier with the troop Commander. He was awarded the Croix De Guerre for his actions on June 8th when the Germans with tank Panzers tried to over run the Canadians at Bretteville Normandy. He was part of the heavy fighting in Carpriquet Airport, in the Normandy region of northern France. and the liberation of Holland. He remained in Europe ( Germany) until the end of the war. Returning to Sharbot Lake in 1946.
