Lowry, John Joseph
Sergeant/Anti Tank Gunner
Army
Rank:
Branch:
Veterans Service:
WWII
Like many young men at the time, John wanted to do the honorable thing, enlist in the army and serve his country in the Second World War. Eager to do so, at 17 he lied about his age and became a soldier in the Royal Canadian Army. His duty would take him to Europe for most of the war. In Germany and France, John served in many capacities including a motorcycle messenger, a sergeant and an anti-tank gunner in the 5th Anti-Tank Regiment. After 5 years of service, John was notably recognized for his tine overseas. Upon his return to Canada, post war, his left breast was decorated with 3 medals and 2 stars. He war them with pride and humility, having never forgotten those who made the ultimate sacrifice and did not make it home. We will never forget his service and commitment. Thank you Dad, for helping to make Canada the best country in the world. Love always, Your family.
