Ivan joined the military on September 11, 1939 with the Lanark & Renfrew Scottish Regiment. He served in the United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Mediterranean area. He was decorated with the service star 19939-1945, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, the Defence medal and clasp, and the Canadian Efficiency Medal.
