Harold served in Canada, United Kingdom, Continental Europe and Central Mediterranean with the 5th Division Signals Corps. He was one of the dispatch riders who formed the mounted escort for the Princess Royal when Her Royal Highness inspected the unit. He received the following during his service: The 1939 - 45 Star, The France and Germany Star, The Defence Medal, The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, The Italy Star and the Bronze Oak Leaf
